Kieran McGovern is an author of graded reading materials for English language learners. He has written original stories and adaptations for most of the major publishers in the field including Heinemann, Oxford University Press, Longman and Penguin.

Three of his titles were singled out for 'their particular excellence' in Bamford and Day's Extensive Reading in the Second Language Classroom (Cambridge, 1998) where he was described as being 'amongst the best writers of language learner materials in English.’ He has also written articles and reviews for magazines and journals including Seven Days and IATEFL Voices.

An enhanced edition of his collected Oxford Storyland Readers (OUP) was published in late 2005 and he is currently working on a new series of primary readers for Mira, Turkey's leading ELT publisher.
Did That Really Happen?, a weekly series of quirky news stories appears in the Hong Kong newspaper, Ming Pao Daily and is republished on this site.

Kieran has a first degree in English from the University of Leicester and an MA in Literary & Historical Studies from Bath Spa University College. He currently teaches in Bath, UK
